Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine is a primary health care system that is aimed at addressing the underlying cause of disease.

It takes a comprehensive approach to health through an individualized model of patient care that centers around health promotion and disease prevention.

Naturopathic doctors use a range of natural modalities as part of their treatment plans, including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, diet/lifestyle counseling, bio-identical hormone replacement (BHRT), and acupuncture.

They can order standard and specialized laboratory testing and can conduct complete physical exams as part of their assessments and in making diagnoses.

Some of the most common conditions treated with naturopathic medicine are:

Hormone imbalances - irregular periods, painful periods, infertility, PCOS, menopause, endometriosis, fibroids, PMS

Digestive upset – bloating, food sensitivities, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, IBS, IBD

Pain – headache, arthritis, joint pain, back pain, sports injuries

Stress related concerns – anxiety, depression, fatigue, poor sleep

Immune disorders – cold & flu, autoimmune conditions, frequent infections

Skin problems – acne, psoriasis, eczema

Metabolic disorders – diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disease, weight management

While naturopathic services are not covered by OHIP, they are often covered by most extended health benefit plans.

Meet Our Naturopathic Doctor

Dr. Jessica Geil is delighted to bring naturopathic medicine to Binbrook.

She is a licensed naturopathic doctor who is committed to helping her patients feel their very best. Dr. Geil believes that health is more than just the absence of disease and strives to empower those around her to live a more balanced life. By taking an individualized approach to health, it is her aim to thoroughly understand her patients’ concerns and identify the reasons why they feel unwell.

Dr. Geil obtained her Doctor of Naturopathy (ND) degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. She completed her clinical internship during her final year of study at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, which included a special 12-month Fertility & Reproductive Health rotation that focused primarily on helping individuals and couples to conceive. During this specialty shift Dr. Geil further developed her passion for fertility, having received additional training in the field and gaining valuable clinical experience in treating conditions that impair fertility in both men and women.

Prior to attending naturopathic medical school Dr. Geil earned her Bachelor of Science in Honours Biomedical Science from the University of Waterloo. Her devotion to health, science, and caring for others are what inspired her to become a doctor. She has experience treating a wide range of health concerns in her general family practice, but has a special interest in the areas of fertility, pregnancy/pre-natal care, women’s health, and digestion.

Dr. Geil is licensed through the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO) and is a professional member of both the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). She has met the Standard of Practice for Prescribing in Ontario, enabling her to administer B12 injections and prescribe bio-identical hormones and desiccated thyroid.
